About Graceful Expression

Graceful Expression provides speech, language, and feeding therapy for the pediatric population in the child’s natural environment. Graceful Expression understands the importance of treating your child as a “whole”, by collaborating with other professionals involved in the child’s life. Using evidenced based methods tailored to your child’s needs, providing parent education, and using a family-centered approach will be implemented during each speech and feeding session. We want your child to be able to express their wants/needs, connect with their family and peers, all while having fun.

A Little Bit About Me

Grace Bernales is a pediatric speech-language pathologist and founder of Graceful Expression. She first received her B.A. in Psychology from the University of California, Riverside, then decided to further her studies at Eastern Washington University for her M.S. in Communication Disorders, completed in 2014. She is licensed by the state of CA and holds a Certification of Clinical Competence (CCC) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).

Grace has had 13 years of experience working with children ranging from 14 m/o to 17 years old. For 5 years she worked as a behavioral therapist to children with ASD and those with Down syndrome. During this time, she grew to learn about the field of speech pathology from her clients’ families. Through her research/volunteer opportunities, her passion to become an SLP began. Once she became an SLP, she knew that she would eventually open up her own private practice, inspired by her father, who was a family practitioner with his own clinic.

Grace has always been motivated to research and learn about various evidenced based practices to help her clients succeed. She currently holds specialized training in:

  • Prompts for Restructuring Oral Muscular Phonetic Targets (PROMPT) Trained – Level 1
  • AEIOU Systematic Feeding Approach
  • Oral Placement Therapy (OPT) by Talk Tools
  • Dynamic Temporal and Tactile Cueing (DTTC)

As an SLP of over 6 years, she has worked with children of varying developmental disabilities (Cerebral palsy, Down Syndrome, Angelman Syndrome, DiGeorge Syndrome, Williams Syndrome), and has had extensive experience providing therapy for a wide range of communication disorders. Grace has also provided feeding therapy/evaluations for toddlers. Her primary passion is providing speech & language therapy for the 3 and under population as well as preschoolers, using the DIR Floortime approach and techniques learned from Hanen. She truly enjoys working with families and believes in the importance of empowering parents to connect with their child, and to better assist them in communicating effectively.

What I do Outside of Speech Therapy!

Besides working, Grace enjoys hiking, relaxing at the beach, learning new piano pieces on the piano, watching a variety of TV shows (Filipino/Korean dramas, reality shows like 90 Day Fiance, romantic comedies, action). She is a huge fan of dessert (particularly chocolate), loves drinking matcha green tea and boba milk tea, baking, trying new restaurants/traveling with her husband, as well as spending time with family, friends, and her 3 dogs!
