Evaluation

Comprehensive speech and language evaluations are conducted when your child has not yet been diagnosed, or has not had a recent evaluation in the past 6 months. This includes a combination of clinical observation, standardized tests, informal tests, as well as a parent interview. A detailed formal report is then written to include your child’s results, whether therapy is warranted at this time, as well as a proposed treatment plan.

Treatment

Speech therapy sessions are typically 50 minutes long. Parents/caregivers may participate during the entire speech session, or may participate during the last 5 to 10 minutes of the session. However, speech session frequency/length may be adjusted based on your child’s specific needs.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if my child has speech and/or language delays?
ASHA provides specific signs of a language delay, speech sound disorders, voice disorders, stuttering, and voice disorders. Evaluation by a Speech-Language Pathologist will help determine whether your child is delayed.
How long are your speech/feeding therapy sessions?
Speech/feeding therapy sessions are typically 50 mins. or 30 mins. in length with a frequency of 1x to 2x/week.The last 5-10 minutes includes parent education. However, frequency/length may be adjusted based on your child’s specific needs.
Does my child need to be evaluated prior to starting speech therapy?
If your child has not had a recent evaluation in the past 6 months, an evaluation is required prior to starting speech/feeding therapy in order to understand your child’s specific needs.
